Toxic Ingredients to Avoid When Pregnant

health during pregnancy

An average adult uses nine personal care products per day. And if you think of those who spend extra time on personal care, the number of products can grow a little more. When it comes to showering, a woman can use a variety of products ranging from facial and body soaps, to shampoos and conditioners, through exfoliants. Outside the bath, the products increase: face creams, perfumes, hair products, make-ups… and the list goes on and on.

Unfortunately, there is the possibility that there are some hidden toxins in the products we use, and the risks they carry are more dangerous for pregnant women.

Paul Pestano, an analyst working for the Environmental Working Group, whose purpose is to research and inform consumers about toxins in personal care products, said:

Pestano warns that exposure to toxins before conception and during pregnancy can have lasting effects on reproductive health. Some of the problems these toxins can cause include infertility, low birth weight and premature births.

Pregnant women should try to minimize their exposure to ingredients that have been associated with adverse health effects, especially those called Endocrine Disruptors or Hormonal Disruptors, which can interfere with the body’s hormonal functions and affect the baby’s development.
